Freddy in the House!

Over the weekend, I attended a class taught by the marvelous Freddy Moran.  If you don't know who she is, just "google" her!  Amazing class with amazing new friends.  Here's a couple of pictures of my collage quilt in progress... Day of the Dead.  :)

More coming soon, as I promised to update this blog more often!  Here's a shout out to my new friends, many of whom I met through this blog and a couple from class this past weekend, Opal, Judy, Stephanie, Sue, Merry Merry, Mary, Kelly... several of them, Kathy, Kathleen, Dorothy, Kristi, and a couple more that I cannot remember right now.  And of course, Freddy!  There were lots of Kathy's and lots of Kelly's so no one really knew what my name was... haha.  :)

Here's blogs that I know of:

Funky Chicken Quilt

Here's one of my latest projects a Funky Chicken Quilt...

...inspired by Freddy Moran, of course, you gotta love Freddy!

And here's all the girls thus far!

I made some in other background colors, but am thinking to stick with the yellow as they really seem to pop. We will see what comes of it, really no plan yet.  The best kind of quilting.

Lone Star Top

It's done, finished, complete... the top that is.  If you look closely at the blue back ground fabric, it has a top and bottom, and the print is large!  So, the cutting of the back ground took some time, and planning, and then some seam ripping, picking, re-cutting and re-sewing!  Ha, but finally a completed top that I am pleased with.

This pattern in a favorite inspirational book, Freddy and Gwen Collaborate Again, by Freddy Moran and Gwen Marston, their version shown on page 165.

I was also inspired by quilts made by my great, great grandmother shown in posts here and here.

It's almost Friday! Yay!

Not Sure Where I'm Going with this...

I had sudden inspiration the other evening in of all places, my laundry room.  I have a small wonky log cabin quilt hanging in my laundry room and every day as I walk by it I think that I need to make another wonky log cabin in zanier, wilder colors.  This quilt was one of my first projects and is, well, ho, hum.  Here's a corner:

A little more of the quilt from a very odd angle, it's difficult to snap pictures in a laundry room!
So the story goes, everyday when I walk by this quilt, I plan that new wonky log cabin, a la Freddy Moran colors.  Then suddenly I think, how about a selvage quilt log cabin?  So I shoot across the hall to the sewing room and get to work. And here's my creation.

I ended up using black and white selvages for two sides and multi-colors on the other two sides, not
pre-planned, like most of my sewing, just kind of happened.

And my favorite selvage on this block:

We'll see where this journey goes!

My son Cort and I have set up our summer cots on the back porch tonight, our first real summer evening, the stars are shining and the crickets are chirping, what fun.  Goodnight. zzzzzzzzz

Happy Valentine's Day

The new camera is fantastic!  I have taken some Valentine shots of my quilts, I had not realized how many hearts that I could find.  This house quilt was one of my first liberated style quilts, it is a Freddy Moran pattern, and although I the top was finished years ago, it still remains unquilted.  Someday...

More heart inspiration, a la Mary Lou Weidman.

And some fabric.  To tell you the truth, I couldn't find the heart fabric I was looking for, however these popped up and I do think they are fabulous.  You can even see a little lint on the black fabric, I'll have to be careful with that new camera.

Happy Valentine's Day!
