Girls Weekend and the Prom

A little late, better than never.... I guess.  This was two weekends ago,  I had it half done, so figured I might as well finish it.

With the boys on a basketball road trip, we celebrated Girls Weekend here in Reno! My Mom, the knitter came up to spend a couple of knitting days and I stitched on a back for the Tra La, Tra La quilt.  Here's our progress...

and on to the knitting...  Mom knits stockings for all the family, these for her great grandchildren.  This is 4th generation with knitted stockings, a tradition that started with my grandmother.  It began with a Santa pattern for all the 1st and 2nd Generation, but Mom has made up patterns for all her grandchildren and now the great grands.  What a great tradition, thanks MOM!

Don't you love how Mom fit in the letters on this one with the little "o" above the "L".  Very creative solution Mom!

Here is the prom girl, with her Mom and Gram.

Update on THIS weekend coming soon!

Getting Carried Away

Here's what's up this weekend, adding border(s) to Tra La Tra La...

Finished the black swirly border and added HST's. Then these hearts by Brandon Mably which I've been admiring on my sewing table for quite a while.

Here's a peek at HST border

and the flying geese

and lastly a shot from my ironing board

I really wanted to incorporate this "Red Thread" fabric as well, but the quilt is nearing king size I fear.

So a pieced back is in order I think.

Have a great Sunday...off to sew.

I linked up to this nice blog today.

Fabric Incentive

Sometimes I use a little fabric fix as an incentive
to get a quilt finished up.  I have about 200 more
flying geese to finish up this baby!

It's hard to see in the photo, but the top fabric
 has a metalic, shiny finish.

Have a great week!

Christmas in July???

Here's my newest project... not intended to be Christmasy, it seems to have turned out that way.  "Why are you making a Christmas quilt?"  the family keeps asking.

Like most of my projects, it started out as one thing, and morphed into another.  I'm going to call it Christmas is Coming, Tra La Tra La;  my mom always sang that little ditty to us as kids when she had something mysterious going on during the Christmas season, I'll probably put the title in the back of the quilt.  Have I mentioned lately, flying geese are my favs???
