Quilt Gallery

My quilts on display, in my living room... my husband crawled around on top of a ladder for an entire afternoon to hang all those little wooden quilt holders, what a job it was. You can take a peek at my latest project on the design board on the bottom left.  I used my mom's new iphone to take the picture... these landscape pics are quite clever :)

It's not perfect, but it's DONE!

I know why I usually stick to quilting!  I promised a friend a bag months ago and finally "got around to it."

As you can see, made with scraps from "Dia de los Muertos."

And a matching lanyard...

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend.

Finish! Dia de Los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos is now officially classified as a finish!  Pieced and designed by the Kelly Girl Quilter and expertly quilted by Judy Irish.  The quilting is fabulous!  I am linking up to the Bloggers' Quilt Festival to show it off!

Judy's quilting just adds the finishing touches; skeletons, flowers, houses, stars, applique and FMQ, it doesn't get much better than that in my book!

I love the way it's heavily stitched to make the
flower really POP, and the intricate design...sigh!

Checking my List

Well, can't check off everything on the list from Friday, but finished a couple of them.

1. Finish last square for the Selvage Quilt - Log Cabin Style
You'll have to take my word for it, I finished the last Log Cabin block for the Selvage quilt... no picture.

2. Binding for Dia de los Muertos
Binding in lovely sherbert color!
Sewn on, still need to hand sew.

3. A little Hexie Sewing
2 yellow hexies... done while the kids at basketball practice.

4. Quilting on my 1st Selvage Quilt, Yikes, it's almost done, just sitting there 1/2 quilted.
Nope, not done.

4. Looking for a new project, I have one circling around in my head
It''s swirling around, I pulled out the bacckgound and am thinking on it.
I also bought a new to me sewing machine at a garage sale, I'll take pictures of my new baby and show her off later in the week.
Here's my sentiments this morning...

A Friend of a Friend

Two weeks ago, just before I left on vacation, I arrived home from work to a package... addressed to ME!

Here's the story, Judy at Wild Irish Rows quilted my Dia de los Muertos Quilt.  When Judy sent the quilt back (have I mentioned, it's FANTASTIC) she asked if I had a little bit of one of the skeleton fabrics for a friend.  Of course I did, so I sent it off along with a few other "skeleton" scraps from Dia de los Muertos.  And the friend sent me back a package of fabric that I did not have!!!
With a hand made card, isn't it perfect.  All from Opal Cocke at here2thereart.com

And here's the goods!

And my fav...

You just gotta love skeletons w/flying geese!

Update on Dia de los Muertos, I am hung up looking for just the "right" binding, should have a finish soon!

Skeletons in My Closet

Here's the quilt back for Dia de los Muertos!  I sent the quilt off to the quilter this afternoon. YIPPEE!

A pieced back using leftover blocks and scraps from my stash... I'm very excited to get this done!

In other news, I am working on completing 5 quilt tops for a friend.  They were made by her mother-in-law years ago and I'm getting them finished up for her.  She requested "simple" backs so here's what I chose, 5 yards of each.  (Notice the brown - ahem) I took 3 of them to the quilter on Monday and have some work to finish up on the last two.  Here's the fabric I purchased for the backs...25 yards in total.

I am really hoping that red qualifies as simple, I did my best!  I'll post pictures of the quilts when I get them back, they are old scrappy quilts, how fun and special to be able to finish up someone else's treasures.

And lastly, Happy 10th Birthday to my little guy Cort!

Dia de los Muertos

Ok, the project that would never end...  (do you ever feel that way about a quilt?) is done, at least the top!    I finished the borders this morning in time to run outside in the sunshine and take a few photos. Here we go:

Dia de los Muertos

Sugar Skull Border - I love a wild and bright border.

Here's some close-ups.

I will probably add some more flower/skull embellishments, but for the most part DONE!   So moving right along to the next project, whatever that may be.  Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Embellishments

So my husband kept saying, "too much blue"... over Thanksgiving my mom said, "you need marigolds" and yesterday my daughter told me "more flowers"...  Sew....

Flowers are sprouting up everywhere!

And a few other things are being added as well.

Thanks for all the suggestions family!

Hope your long weekend is going well.

Wonky Houses

Here's an update on my Dia de Los Muertos project.  I've been slowly adding wonky houses, if you've never tried these wonky, free formed houses, they are EASY and FUN!  I had pieced houses before, but never just started hacking into my stash and sewing away!

This is my start on the border, free pieced skull blocks, with a little of this and that thrown in.

Have a great Tuesday, and a side note... this is my 100th post...
who woulda thunk it?
