This and That

The new sewing table is officially broken in, a glorious, colorful mess adorning the top!

I'm trying to get the houses and skeleton border finished for the Dia de los Muertos quilt.

That zebra bag is filled to the rim with scraps!

Bulletin Board

And here's my Thanksgiving crew in the goofy picture, the whole gang except my husband who was the photographer.  We are having another lower key family dinner this afternoon with my lovely mother-in-law.

Wow, that weekend sure went quickly.

Taa Daa

Here it is, home at last... a new sewing table, handmade by my Dad.  A couple of months ago, I moved my sewing room into our great room.  My Dad says, "Your sister has the perfect library table for your sewing machine."  So here it is, made in the style of an old library table my sister has at her house, and made by Dad.  What a gift, it's a beauty!

Also on the list for the weekend... put the binding on the Christmas Quilt... (look on the table above), finished that up today, now just need to hand sew it to the back.

and I took my Granddaughter Nadin for her first trip with me alone to visit Great Grandma and Grandpa... as her Uncle Cort says, Grandma has good toys!

Nadin on her first visit to Great Grandma's.

Looks like both Nadin and Grandma Kat were spoiled at Great Grandma and Grandpa's house!

Thanks Dad, a new family heirloom.

Onto the week...

New Design Board

Hi there, good Thursday evening to all.  I have a new design board, or bulletin board for my sewing area.  I have to confess that I have been pinning blocks directly into the wall for the last four years... ouch it has been hard on the fingers.  So this Sunday I purchased a 4 x 8 foot, 2" foam insulation board and covered it with batting... and it was so nice to just "stick" blocks to the board.  However, the one 4 x 8 board was just not wide enough, so Monday I added another one, covered with batting and now I can very happily report that my fingers are on the mend.  The feature I really like and didn't realize I was missing is that you really can use it as a design area, and change blocks around very quickly... much quicker that all that pinning and pushing.

I also have finally decided and made progress on the border for the cow quilt.  Should have a looksy ready maybe early next week.  (We are out of town Saturday, dang it... but I'll get my fill of stitching in on Sunday.)  I did go with lots of pink, following Mary Lou's suggestion, and let me tell you we are talkin' PINK!

Here's to the new design board!

You can see the two different boards, as I had two different types of batting stashed away... I'll probably never get around to changing them to match.  And, I am just leaning them against the wall, at least for now.

Looking forward to that weekend!

The Sewing Room is Back to Normal!

Yes, I'd like to report that the sewing room is back to normal.

A lovely, colorful mess, what fun!

If you look closely, you can see I bought Mary Lou's new book and I am making....

A cow quilt, here's the first two sisters in the herd.

I am so looking forward to the weekend. Phew.

My Fabric Stash

Well remember during the big sewing room move my fabric looked like this????

and this????

Now, using a little "out of the box" imagination....  I used my china hutch for my stash.

I'd like to report to you that is still looks that good, however, it would be a fib!  I dove in and started cutting and stitching last night, but it's nice to have everthing in some semblance of order!

Also, three more napkins!

Movin' on Up!

I have a new sewing room!!!!  Here's the scoop.  My old sewing room was in a den type room, connected to our great room/kitchen area.  A couple of weeks ago, I blogged about moving everything in the sewing room so we could install new carpet, what a mess!  The carpet was installed while we were on vacation, and as we drove (13 hour trip - one way)  my husband suggested moving my sewing room to our great room area!!!!  At first reluctant to spread my mess, I finally agreed, and am I ever a happy camper.

Lots of Light! (Em, Mary in the background!)

As you can see lots of natural light, so much so it is difficult to take photos.  This photo taken from the middle of the great room, we used this side as my sewing room and the other side as a sitting area, using my quilts and some furniture as a partition of sorts.

Partition
We moved the TV and couch to the smaller den, really a better place for it, you can now actually hear the TV, as in the great room, the sound was somewhat muffled and drowned out by the rest of the activity in this highly used part of our home.  As my husband said, "I had to get her out of her cave!"  Happy Sunday to all, I am off to stitch.

Tomorrow, (or the next day, whenever I get around to it!), my stash also has a new home.

Chaos!!!!!!

We have moved 3 bedrooms (one of them MY SEWING ROOM!!) into our living room in anticipation of having new carpet installed... now the installation is set back to next Monday, ugh.  Torture.  ;)

View from the couch. YIKES.

My stash...

More stash, not all of it , I must confess!

Dining room table

I did save myself a little haven to create??? Not sure how much I'll get done this week.  I think it looks worse in the pictures than it really is!

Thanks to my big boys Brendan and Andrew for your sweat and muscle this weekend.
