Hourglass Quilt

Here is my other quilt recently back from being quilted... trying to decide on the border.  I was thinking pink at first, but now considering blue or green like in the border, or maybe even red?????  Hmmmmm, decisions, decisions!

Weekend Jaunt, adding to my Stash!

Well, as you know, I headed out in cold and freezing weather to watch my daughter play softball on Saturday.  (My son's baseball game was cancelled - yipee!)  Our team lost two games, so I snuck out early and there just happened to be a fabric shop calling my name on the way home... here's hoping for a bit of springtime sometime soon!

The clerk remarked at how well the fabrics went together, I didn't burst her bubble and tell her I'd probably be adding them in with about 50 other fabrics!

I hear that is supposed to warm up by the end of the week and we might even see 70 degrees.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  Happy Monday to all.

Finish!!!!

An official finish, bound, labeled, DONE.  This was a t-shirt quilt commemorating my son Andrew's considerable baseball travels.  I sent it out to be quilted and really like the all over geometric pattern.  Here we go.

Bound and backed with baseball fabric.

And even labeled, I made myself make the label even though I didn't want to, it's surprising how quickly it's done if you just take care of it right away.  I am usually a huge procrastinator!  This was Andrew's 23rd birthday present, I wrapped the pieced top for his birthday.

and the quilting is nice, I had always just done simple machine quilting myself on prior t-shirt quilts.

Quilt Back

I am contemplating the quilt back for the Horsey Quilt, and thinking back on my other quilts.  Do you like to a pieced back?  I enjoy using scraps, extra blocks, or even extra fabric (imagine that) on the back of my quilts.  Here's some pics of my Flower Power Quilt Back, it is a Jan Mullins pattern.  This pattern also taught me about the principles used in free piecing letters; many of the same processes. 

        

I quilted this myself, the quilting shows well on the back... the quilting seemed to take an entire summer!  It is machine quilted as you can see, one of my first efforts.

And then properly labeled, like all my quilts.... well at least this quilt has a label.

I am off to my kids softball and baseball games in 40 degree weather, doesn't that sound thrilling.   Here's the front:

Spring In Nevada???

Well, the first day of Spring has come and gone, meanwhile in Northern Nevada we have awakened three of the last four morning to this, taken from my back porch:

Hurry up Spring!!!!!!  In Northern Nevada, we kind of just skip spring and move onto summer in June. 

Onto sewing related items, do you collect (or hoard) certain genres of fabric?  I find I cannot pass up any fabric with a peace sign... hmmmmm, maybe I grew up in the 70's... in California!

Horsey Quilt Top for Ruthi Done!

Finished up my Horsey Quilt over the weekend, with free free pieced letters too.  First the letters in progress... each letter as constructed:

Then added fabric for the spaces between the letters.

Finally, fabric sewn to the top and bottom of the letters and trimmed to 6 1/2 inches for the border.

Tah Dah!!!! 

Isn't Ruthi a great name for a 5 year-old?  Off to be quilted now.
