Summer Vacation - Stashbusting Style

Just back from a restful week at the beach, and an entire week without a sewing machine!  Not my style, as I usually pack the machine and a project or two or more for the road.  With a lot of time planned to be spent on the beach, I figured I'd take a break...

However, I took a project, a real stashbuster!  It says that a 2' x 3' rug would use approximately 8 yards of fabric, but truth be told, it uses much more than that.  I took a kitchen garbage bag with a good chunk of fabric with me and used all of it for this rug.  Fabric is cut into 2" strips and then crocheted.  Very easy, I had never crocheted before.

PS.  This rug is also a workout for your biceps.

It's so good to be Home, Sweet, Home!

Fabric Incentive

Sometimes I use a little fabric fix as an incentive
to get a quilt finished up.  I have about 200 more
flying geese to finish up this baby!

It's hard to see in the photo, but the top fabric
 has a metalic, shiny finish.

Have a great week!

Christmas in July???

Here's my newest project... not intended to be Christmasy, it seems to have turned out that way.  "Why are you making a Christmas quilt?"  the family keeps asking.

Like most of my projects, it started out as one thing, and morphed into another.  I'm going to call it Christmas is Coming, Tra La Tra La;  my mom always sang that little ditty to us as kids when she had something mysterious going on during the Christmas season, I'll probably put the title in the back of the quilt.  Have I mentioned lately, flying geese are my favs???

Reily Quilt Finish

Well, it's been so long since I posted, I had to think about my password... but I guess it's just like a bicycle...

I finished up the Reily Quilt a couple of weeks ago and it has moved on to it's new home in Oregon.
I free motion quilted with stars and swirls and bound in yellow polka dots on a blue background.  The binding really had that shazam factor going.

Back

Sideways, you get the idea though.

I have a new project started and new fabric to share, back soon!

Quilters "Block????"

Help, I needed a project?  A quilting block???  Had it finally happened?   And so the piecing began, I'm making flying geese.  In case you hadn't noticed, flying geese and stars are my "go to's."

This picture made me laugh, I must of snapped
a it while I was walking around the sewing room.

I always sew the scraps on flying geese together for a matching border... love it!

Hope you are enjoying a great weekend.  Happy Stitching!

Reily Quilt

It all started here, with this little swatch
of fabric swirling around in my head!

I'm making a quilt for a grand nephew to
celebrate his first birthday.  Grand nieces
and nephew popping up all over the place
these days!

I thought, I'll put his name in it, and a 1 for the
birthday boy.  And I was off to the races!

How about a Mary Lou cupcake?

And maybe some stars????

And YELLOW!  This quilt is definitely yellow,
not usually my favorite, but it's great here!
It really gives the quilt the pop I was looking for.

Quilting now and a finish by the end of the weekend!

It's not perfect, but it's DONE!

I know why I usually stick to quilting!  I promised a friend a bag months ago and finally "got around to it."

As you can see, made with scraps from "Dia de los Muertos."

And a matching lanyard...

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend.

Finish! Dia de Los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos is now officially classified as a finish!  Pieced and designed by the Kelly Girl Quilter and expertly quilted by Judy Irish.  The quilting is fabulous!  I am linking up to the Bloggers' Quilt Festival to show it off!

Judy's quilting just adds the finishing touches; skeletons, flowers, houses, stars, applique and FMQ, it doesn't get much better than that in my book!

I love the way it's heavily stitched to make the
flower really POP, and the intricate design...sigh!

Sugar Skulls...

Skeletons...
