Birthday "B"

I made a "B" for Brenda at Scraps and Strings who is gathering B's for a birthday quilt, what a great idea for a lasting and memorable gift! Here's my "B"...

I had been hoarding that birthday fabric for a long time, it's nice to finally see it in a block, I like those candles.   Happy Birthday Brenda!

Kaitelin Quilt Done.... Finally - Phew!

The project that was only going to take a couple of days is finally pieced.  How come I always SEVERELY underestimate the amount of time it takes to complete something?  Here's the pic's.

I used up all my scraps from the original Horsey quilt, and then some.  All the border is pieced from the scraps from the flying geese in the original quilt.  I cannot bring myself to throw those away and I have used them in many projects.  I also had many 1" strips that made the quilt very scrappy.  I am quilting this one myself, so hopefully can get a start on that this weekend!

I'm home!!!

Home Sweet Home.  Thought I'd share more of my fabric from the trip, this time a bit more colorful.

The owl has peace signs for eyes!  This little spree was purchased at Monica's Quilt and Bead in Palm Desert, CA.  If you like unique fabric and are in the area, I'd stop in.

Black and Whites

I've been out of town on vacation, Yipee!   And today had a chance to stop and do a little fabric shopping......

Coffee Themed........

For some reason, I love the coffee cup with the sun on it...

And a little color thrown in the mix.

More to come later.  (much more, wink, wink.)  Headed home tomorrow!

Vacation!

Leaving on a jet plane this morning for sunny southern Nevada and southern California and hoping to enjoy some warmer temps.  Was hoping this would be completed today, but not quite, a few more gaps to fill in.  I will look for a couple of quilt shops in my travels... I already know of one!

Finished, this will be 40 ish by 40 ish.  Later.

Wonky Letters, Thank You Tonya!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Tonya.  You are the inspiration for these wonky, free pieced letters.  If you have not visited Tonya's blog, Lazy Gal Quilting, I suggest you check it out!  I have been visiting on her blog anonymously for years (I have to admit), but now am able to thank her appropriately.  I have used free pieced letters in several quilts, and I think they are especially fun for kids and babies.   Tonya also has a book if you need a bit of help with those letters. So without further ado;

I added little triangles in the corners of the curved letters for help create more realistic looking letters.  I think it helped, not so blocky and chunky.

Here's the a and e.

And finally all sewn together. (Made a little error on the tail of that E, but just patched it up and went on!)

The A kind of looks a little funny, but I think once I get the fabric sewn on the bottom, it will look fine.  I am completely out of the pink polka dots, so I'll have to figure something out there! You can already see the little scrap I had to put in over the A and I was piecing together small pieces over that N to eke out every bit of the pink polka dots.

And there are a lot of vowels in this name, k-A-I-t-l-I-n, phew!

As you can probably tell, this is part of Horsey Quilt 2.0.  (My kids just love that I name my quilts, they think it is hilarious!)  Happy weekend.

WIP........ Horsey Quilt Version 2.0

Yes, even I must admit, I might be getting a wee bit carried away.  What is it about that scrap pile?  Sunday afternoon I walked into my sewing room, ready to begin the binding for the Hourglass Quilt.  Lo and behold a pile of horsey scraps was shouting my name.  The challenge, USE UP HORSEY SCRAPS, no new fabric...(haha I will not stick to that one!)

Here's the pile Sunday.

And here's the pile today, noticably smaller... I swear!

Now, sneak preview... a little wilder, a little wonkier.

More fun too I think.  A baby quilt in the works for a grand niece on the way.

And not to forget Happy Birthday dear sister Beth, April 7, love ya.

My Quest for the Perfect Binding!

My search for the binding on my Hourglass quilt has led me on a merry little chase and here's the results.  I was looking at blues, can you tell?

Here's what I chose, I seem to like this designer or line of fabric, I recognized the name from another line of fabric by Michele D'Amore, "Hippie Chicks."

Another blue, just cuz.............

Another retro blue with a very cool selvage!

And a couple more, while I was there.

We have been enjoying spring weather here in Northern Nevada, though the forecast says snow Wednesday evening... at least it should melt quickly.
