More Fabric

A busy weekend here again!  I guess that is good, although it wreaks havoc on my sewing schedule.  Luckily, I have fabric, and more fabric!  These have a retro 70's feeling... love the brown.

and more owls...

Sorry it's sideways, but you get the idea.  Am picking up a quilt from the long arm quilter today, that is always exciting.  Hope you all had a great weekend.

Pschedelic Quilt

Well not alot of new sewing going on as I have been chasing my family around watching games and just doing ordinary things.  I am entering it in the Bloggers' Quilt Festival over at Amy's Creative Side.  Go check out all the quilts, very fun!

I finished this quilt last year and it may be my favorite... it is and has been on the end of my bed for quite a while now.  I thought maybe the Hourglass Quilt might displace it, but no, it was not to be.  The Pschedelic Quilt was a "quilt as you go" quilt, and that technique does work quite well, although I'm not sure if I'll go that route again.  The quilt also has some of my favorite wild, colorful fabrics.  I have posted several snippets of this quilt before; here it is in all it's glory!

As you may have noticed I love wild borders and flying geese and this quilt is no exception:

I quilted on my little machine with colorful threads, of course!

and the back is a sheet purchased at the thrift store, very 70ish.

If you notice I also made a baby quilt with this same pattern, it's on the sidebar, called Eliza's Quilt.  And the main block here is a pattern I bought, I'd give credit if I could find the darned thing.

Details

Thought you might enjoy some close ups of the Selvage Quilt.  Starting a pieced back and then sending it off to be quilted.

Confession of a Selvage Quilter

If you hadn't noticed, my updates on the selvage quilt stopped.  Abruptly.  The real truth is not that I have been busy working on other projects... but that when I added the border, it was too BIG.  And I mean BIG.  And I ended up with three sides of a very floppy border added and then became frustrated, neatly folded the whole thing up and sat in on the cedar chest in my sewing room.  It has been staring at me everyday since.

I had unsewn the border over the last few weeks, so tonight I pulled the whole thing out and after some trimming, ok lots of trimming, and sewing, and a little more seam ripping,  I now have a selvage quilt again!  This time ready for backing and quilting.  There are lots of things I like about this pattern and also about selvage quilts.  You can look at them like a pie...

or at the stars...

Here's the border and corner, just a simple v-pattern border and star corners.

Very Fun!   Have a great week.

Happy Mother's Day

Finished the binding on the Horsey Quilt 2.0 aka Kaitelin quilt.  Did I spell that right?  I'll have to check.  My big inspiration for this project was this scrap pile I posted earlier.

This............

Turned into this........

I used an old scrap of flannel for the backing, so no new purchases on this finish, and I did use that whole pile of scraps plus some other fabric I already had.

And I like the wonky, casual look from the scraps.

Hope you all had a great Mom's Day, this quilt going to soon to be mom, my niece Tana.

No more Horsey Quilts, I promise.

Hourglass Quilt Back

As promised here is the back of the Hourglass Quilt made of pieced black and white fabrics, along with a few extra flying geese thrown in for a splash of color.  I used several fabrics I am very fond of.  I really like the larger Prints Charming flower fabric as well as the shoe fabric.

And a couple of close ups, kind of hard to see the prints so far back.

ohh, I like those hearts too!!!!!

Feels good to have another FINISH!  Yay!

Another Finish!

I have several projects "in the works" (of course).  Finally got around to finishing the Hourglass Quilt over the weekend.  I had made the binding and it was a few inches too short, so there it sat until I finally made a quick trip to the local shop and purchased ONLY the little extra fabric that I needed.  That ONLY may have been a first for me!

I'll have photos of the back soon, I took these as I ran out of the house this morning.  Happy Tuesday!
