Stars and Moons FMQ

Well I FMQ'ed They're All Dalmatians and a couple of other projects, but I've never tried densely quilting a project before... I used two layers of batting, like I've seen on other blogs... and jumped right in.  Overall,  I'm not displeased, just need more practice.

The batting sure makes it pop!

Here's the back, it's a panel of the solar system.  My daughter looked at it and said, "Mom, use the dark thread on the back."  Good idea, why I didn't think of that??

Up next...FMQ

The Stars and Moon top is finished, 36" x 48".  Tonight I'm going to get the back ready and move onto the Free Motion Quilting.

Here's a few more pictures of the finished top.

It really is square, why does it photograph like that?

Yay, Wednesday already!

Almost There

Are we there yet?
I almost have the top of the Stars and Moon quilt pieced... one more row to go!

Did you happen to watch "Downton Abbey" last night?  SIGH!
I am so hooked on that show, I watched/listened to it again today while stitching away.

More Stars and Moons...

I have found the signature fabric for this quilt; when I found it online, I was somewhat reluctant to purchase as it was a little different from the rest of the fabric I had used, but it turned out to be fantastic.  Isn't funny how things turn out... sometimes I think I have the sure thing and when I sew it into a block,  it's a dud.  Well, this one certainly is no dud.

I started to sew the blocks together earlier this evening, so the top should be completed and ready for quilting in the next day or two.

Also, look what I found at Costco today... for $7.99 (or maybe $8.99 I cannot remember), six pairs... for gardening... no gardening here, I am going to use for FMQing.

Tomorrow is a holiday, yea, and extra day in the sewing room!

Finally, FABRIC!

I turned the computer on this morning for a quick post.... message says "Installing 1 of 11 Updates."  1 of 11 grrrrrr, several hours later, here we go.

This selvage makes my heart go pitter patter.

All for the stars and moon quilt.

Does your sewing area ever look like this?

What a mess.

Looking forward to the long weekend.

Under the Weather

Feeling a bit under the weather this weekend with the sniffles, so I took it easy and hand sewed the bindings on three quilts.  Here's two of them, pieced by a friend's mother, then lovingly stored by her daughter-in-law for 16 years, and finally, COMPLETE!

Hexie Quilt
Hexie's quilted with a meander...

Light blue binding and small flower back.

Sailboat Quilt
Also quilted in an all-over meander.

Bright blue binding, green back.

2 out of 5 completed, 3 more in progress.

Stars and Moons

The stars are twinkling on my bulletin board...

Here's a quick update of my last few sewing days... finished hand sewing the binding on one quilt, sewed the bindings onto two other quilts and working away on my stars and moon quilt.  I will have a couple of 2012 finishes to show off this weekend.

Looking forward to Friday!

I LOVE a Pieced Back!

Here's a back I finished this morning... it's off to the quilter this afternoon.  As this is the 4th of 5 quilts I am finishing up for a friend, I used some extra blocks and fabric that were stuffed into this bag of semi-finished quilt tops.

I love the old red gingham with the little flowers.  I have to admit it was out of necessity that I went with the pieced back, not quite enough of this little white flower fabric for an entire back.   One of the things I love about quilting it that you can always improvise!

This will be the back for the 2nd scrappy Sailboat Quilt shown here on my ironing board.

Have a great weekend.
