Over the Moon

Made my first few blocks for a stars and moon baby quilt, I love stars and moons so this will be a fun quilt.

And, as usual, I am having a great time picking out fabrics for this project.

Stay tuned, this is going to be a good one!

Sailboat Scrappiness

Just received three of the quilts I am putting together for a friend back from the quilter,  here's the first of three...

There are two sailboat quilts, I had one on my ironing board, and one back from the quilter.

I went with an all-over meander on this one.

Love the older prints.  I have a hexie and a tulip quilt to show you next.

Happy Monday... ugh!

Keep it Simple

Do you ever promise a quilt... before it's made???  This is one of my bad habits.... so I promised my little guy a  new quilt for his 10th birthday last week, a "Sports Quilt" for his room, and I am going to keep it simple.  Maybe, at least that is my intention...  9 1/2 inch squares, so hopefully a quick and easy finish.  (haha)

ok, maybe not all 9 1/2 inch squares.

I'm also using old denim fabric from my never ending collection of old jeans... so soft and cuddly.  I'll probably put Cort's name on the back just to add a little sizzle.

Yesterday in Reno, we had another huge wildfire, with over 26 homes completely burned to the ground.  I have lived in Reno over 20 years and have never seen such horrible devastation.  It was snowing in the mountains 10 miles west of us and burning everything to the ground 6 miles south of us... as our governor said... "inconceiveable."  Please send your best thoughts and intentions towards Reno, NV.

Skeletons in My Closet

Here's the quilt back for Dia de los Muertos!  I sent the quilt off to the quilter this afternoon. YIPPEE!

A pieced back using leftover blocks and scraps from my stash... I'm very excited to get this done!

In other news, I am working on completing 5 quilt tops for a friend.  They were made by her mother-in-law years ago and I'm getting them finished up for her.  She requested "simple" backs so here's what I chose, 5 yards of each.  (Notice the brown - ahem) I took 3 of them to the quilter on Monday and have some work to finish up on the last two.  Here's the fabric I purchased for the backs...25 yards in total.

I am really hoping that red qualifies as simple, I did my best!  I'll post pictures of the quilts when I get them back, they are old scrappy quilts, how fun and special to be able to finish up someone else's treasures.

And lastly, Happy 10th Birthday to my little guy Cort!

Dia de los Muertos

Ok, the project that would never end...  (do you ever feel that way about a quilt?) is done, at least the top!    I finished the borders this morning in time to run outside in the sunshine and take a few photos. Here we go:

Dia de los Muertos

Sugar Skull Border - I love a wild and bright border.

Here's some close-ups.

I will probably add some more flower/skull embellishments, but for the most part DONE!   So moving right along to the next project, whatever that may be.  Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Seattle, WA

Last week my mom and I visited Seattle for 5 days.  We watched my daughter play basketball AND visited quilt and yarn shops.  Mom's the knitter, (me too sometimes) and I'm the quilter.  We took all the obligatory snaps:

Space Needle
Latte, of course!

Pike's Market

And a few photos, not so very common:

in Bothell, WA

There is TONS of fabric in this shop, sometimes piled three bolts deep, you  have to dig a bit, but it's well worth it.  They also had a little porch with a tin roof, now enclosed and the rain drops were pitter pattering on the roof, so warm and cozy.

Here's what I came home with:

Cows

More Cows...

Giraffes... (I know, I have the giraffes, cows and the hippos from this collection now!)

Great Seattle souvenir!

Thanks to Mary Lou for her great suggestions, we had a ball!

Happy New Year

I'm back, after a brief hiatus... let's see...  Christmas, family, a 5 day trip to Seattle, basketball games, New Years, back to work, and more basketball, phew!  So I had promised more fabric, here we go, blues today.

Used some of this finishing up Dia de los Muertos.

Here's your stars Amber!

These 3 from Esther's Quilts on Bainbridge Island, WA.

I have been back sewing this week, finally!  The houses are sewn together for Dia de los Muertos and am considering adding a border of some sort.  Also if you noticed a few stars above, I am making a stars and moon baby quilt for my best buddy who is having her second child in March, so thinking on that right now, March is right around the corner.

And TGIF, almost!
